Q7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Preliminary Task
Final Front Cover

For my preliminary task I had to produce a college magazine front cover. This was to prepare me for my final product. My preliminary task allowed me to get used to the process of producing a magazine front cover. Along with this it introduced me to conventions of magazine. I have learnt many things along the way and developed my previous skills since then. Below is an example of the things I have learnt.

I did a brief breakdown of my preliminary front cover, when looking back at my college magazine front cover I have found multiple things that show how unconventional it looks however I did learn many things while doing my preliminary task. Many of these things have be stated above. I have learnt that all magazines use three set colours, this helped me as when it came to planning my magazine I knew that my magazine needed to feature three main colours. Along with this I noticed the key conventions of a magazine, for example the masthead, barcode, date and issue and feature stories. This helped me as I knew the conventional places to put the listed conventions.

Here is a comparison of my preliminary task and my final front cover, this shows me still using the conventions I knew and displays the new skills that I learnt.
While creating my final product I received annotated drafts. This really helped me because after that I made drastic changes to my magazine with confidence that it would improve it. They improved the look by making it more conventional and more appealing to my audience. Therefore this form of feedback has been very important and effective as it allowed me to progress and develop my skills.
